NOTICE TO ALL TEACHERS CLASSIFIED AS ‘INDEPENDENTS" Please read before going any further. State legislation has dictated a change in Missouri AEL certification. In accordance with revised AEL certification guidelines, effective April 1, 2005 Only individuals who 1) work for a State funded AEL program, a local program or AEL Special Literacy Grant recipients or 2) work within a state funded institutional setting that requires the certificate for employment, i.e. Dept. of Corrections or Div. of Youth Services, will be eligible to obtain and/or maintain an Missouri AEL teacher Certificate. What does this mean to you as an independent? If you work within the Department of Corrections, you are no longer considered an Independent. All enrollments for activities provided by the MAEL PDC should be submitted through the DOC Education Central Office. Contact your unit supervisor for more information. You will be welcome to attend all the MAEL Professional Development Center activities, however, this will not be used as requirements to obtain and/or maintain AEL certification. Enrollment Process: · Independents should download an Independent Workshop/In-service Enrollment Form at the top of this page..
· Cost for the Pre-Certification (PCW) and Beginning Teacher Assistance Program (BTAP) workshops for Independents is $180 dollars. Eight (8) hour trainings will be $120, six (6) hour trainings will be $90 and four (4) hour trainings will be $60. Payment should be remitted by agency check or money order to the Missouri AEL Professional Development Center along with the enrollment form. No personal Checks will be accepted.
Make payment out to North Central Missouri College.

MAEL PDC North Central Missouri College 1301 Main St. Trenton, MO 64683 Meals: Four or Six hour trainings- These events may have food at the discretion of the host director. Please contact the host director for details on meal plans.
At PCW & BTAP Workshops held September through June, breakfast and lunch will be provided on day 1 and breakfast on day 2. Any workshops held between July 1 and August 30 will include lunch on a full day. Breakfast is not included in a summer workshop. Lodging is not provided for independent participants
Participants arriving late to the workshop will not be admitted.
No Shows: · Participants who do not show at the workshop will not be refunded their money unless a situation beyond their control kept them from attending. To request a refund due to a no show, participant must submit, in writing the reason for the no show. Request must be received within 5 business days of the activity.
Cancellations: · Should it become necessary for you to cancel; please notify the MAEL PDC office as soon as possible. · In order to be eligible for a full refund, you will need to inform our office in writing no later than the close of business hours two business days before the first day of the workshop.
